How a Solar Water Heater Attaches to a Roof

We discuss one example of a roof attachment method about how a solar water heater attaches to the roof. It is known as the snapNrack series 100 flashing attachment for a comp shingle roof.

In such an attachment the flashing goes underneath the comp shingle which seals it up. There is a L foot on the inside that is attached to the solar water heater bracket.

That is totally sealed up watertight and it has a lag inside that lags down to the rafter. In the front, we have three flashing through roof attachments that are directly lagged in and collected to the bracket.

In the back we have the same snapNrack attachments but they are attached to an aluminum solar rail instead.

That has a couple advantages such as mainly in that you can hit the rafters and the rafters don't have to line up with the bracket. It just makes it a little easier and stronger so you can put in more attachment points and really spread out the weight of the water tank which is the heavier part of the system across more rafters and lower your pounds per square foot. That's how the solar water heater attachments work for a comp shingle roof. We have other attachment options for metal roofs or flat roofs.
